about me

January 2012

Hey! I’m Kristi, I blog/tweet/Instagram as Schnitzel & Boo. I’ve been sewing for *drum roll please* 32 years. Holy cow that makes me sound old! I started when I was five, that’s all. My mom was a single parent and she worked really hard to buy us the nice clothes that we wanted to wear. You can imagine how she felt the day she came home and found me in my bedroom surrounded by cut up pieces of clothing that she had just bought at Meier & Frank (think Nordstrom) a few days before. Thankfully, she was also very understanding and also really encouraging and she didn’t get upset. She simply showed me how to put them back together and then started buying my clothes at Value Village. Smart lady, huh? Very shortly after, my aunt bought me a set of fashion plates and my dream of becoming a fashion designer had developed full force.
Today I am a pattern designer, crafter, sewist, toy maker and quilter. The quilting is a new development in my love affair with fabric. Quilting has always been a part of my sewing history; my aunts, great-aunts, grandmother and great-grandmother have always been quilters. I’m not sure what took me so long to pick up the habit, but now that I have learned it, I can’t stop doing it. I love it. I love mashing up fabrics together and seeing what happens. I love figuring out how blocks go together instead of following a pattern.

My little family

Who the heck am I?  Well, aside from being Remy's mom and Jamie's wife, I'm also a pattern designer, a Red Sox fan, companion to three miniature dachshunds, and one heck of a crafty gal.  I love to sew, cook, travel, read, mod podge etc.  The list goes on and on, which is exactly how I am going to keep you up-to-date and in-the-know of who I am...A LIST!!!  So, just who am I?  Well, here you go...

This Is Who I Am, In No Particular Order
-You are reading this TYPED blog from someone who types with her two pointer fingers and has to look at the keyboard to prevent errors.  Yep, it's true.  I cannot type.
-When I put my socks and shoes on, I always start with the left foot: sock and shoe, then right foot: sock and shoe.
-I suffer moderately from Scoleciphiobia, which is a fear of worms.  I realize this is completely bonkers but I can't help it.  They really, really, really freak me out.
-I love to garden but the whole Worm-Phobe thing tends to be a problem.  I spend about 15-20 minutes hyperventilating while simultaneously giving myself an anti-worm pep talk before even putting on my gardening gloves, which are pink, by the way.
-I LOVE PINK.
-But not so much so that everything I have is pink.  I'm the lucky mom of a pink-loving little girl, so that satisfies my need to drench everything in that color.
-I hate the term "LOL"
-Embarassing but true: I was once in a scholarship pageant.  I placed third.  I was twenty-one.
-I can burp the alphabet.
-I have nine TWELVE SEVENTEEN sewing machines.
-I have taken over 25,000 40,000 65,000 100,000 175,000 pictures of my child and she's not even three four five six seven eight nine yet!
-I LOVE to pack for vacation so much so that my husband hasn't packed his own bags in almost ten years.
-We named our daughter after Jerry Remy
-If she had been a boy, we would have named him Boston.
-I love ice cream.
-If there was such a thing as reincarnation, and I died today, I would come back as a party planner in my next life and I would live in England
-My family roots are in Kentucky and my several times great Uncle John Shell was the world's oldest man.
-I make the best buttermilk biscuits in the world!
-I can only drink one cup of coffee a day.  After that, it gives me a headache and the smell of it makes me feel sick to my stomach.
-We have had two miniature dachshunds: Schnitzel McPoo and Fenway Frank aka "Buddy Boo".  Now you know where I got the name "Schnitzel & Boo".
-Sadly, Schnitzy passed away on April 2, 2016 due to complications of Cushing's Disease, lung cancer and pneumonia.  We were, and are still, devastated.
-Very shortly after losing Schnitzel, we adopted Nelson, the sweetest, goofiest hound dog with a very sad past.  He lived a happy, spoiled, loved life with us for a little over a year before he succumbed to hemangiosarcoma (very bad cancer) in his heart.
-We now have Fenway Frank, Truman (a long-haired black and tan miniature dachshund) and Taffy (a piebald, wall-eyed, stiff wire-haired miniature dachshund.
-I drove a MINI Cooper named Cookie.
-I now drive a MINI Cooper Countryman named Pepper.
-I used to run the Schnitzel & Boo Mini Quilt Swap twice a year.
-I am the Technical Creative Specialist for Aurifil threads.  I LOVE MY JOB.
